i am very confuse with this topic that .net is plateform dependent or independent because someone says it is plateform dependent and some says it is not.......

It is Platform Independent as one can download the Standardized Specification of the Microsoft Common Language Infrastructure and write a .NET compiler for a new operating system of your choice making your programs capable of being portable on a new platform except for all the programs that use some specific features of a particular OS (e.g.: for Windows P/Invoke). This was not possible in the earlier versions of Microsoft development environments prior to .Net. Java is platform independent because 'someone' wrote the virtual machine for one or more operating systems of their choice so you are able to run software developed in Java on Windows or any other operating systems for which the VM has been written. For People using Windows .NET is the best solution if their targeted platform is Microsoft Windows As Code written by using the .NET Framework is compiled instead of interpreted resulting in much better performance than Java and competing technologies.
