How is LINQ related to databases? Are there other ways of accomplishing the same tasks?

LINQ is language for querying data not just data contained in relational databases (SQL) but data contained in a variety of sources such XML files SharePoint lists Objects Datasets and many others. At that when you say are their other ways of doing the same thing then I would say to that yes in all cases. The difference being that with LINQ you can use one common approach to query any of those sources for data. If you are not using LINQ you will have to use different approaches to querying each source; you can simplify your life in many cases by using LINQ across the board rather than using a variety of other approaches to query data.

LINQ to SQL LINQ to Object LINQ to DataSet LINQ to XML LINQ to Entity. LINQ to SQL and LINQ to entity is related to database. Adding to above -LINQ will work on any collection of objects that supports IEnumerable or the generic IEnumerable interface . Even you can make you life easy if you combine LINQ with Lymda. it will save lots of coding line.
