hi everyone, how can I know whether an item is selected or not in listbox? if any of the item selected, I want to do 'x' thing if not any of the item selected, I want to do 'y' thing

Mohan, to check whether any of the item is selected or not in list box,Take look at this code if (listBox1.SelectedIndex != -1) { // do X thing } else { // do y thing } usually Selectedindex will be -1 if nothing selected.and it will return value from 0 to n-1 if any of the item is selected.and also you can get the selected item directly using listbox1.selectedItem.

HI SAMY, thanks for ur kind reply.... what I actually needed is any of the item(say 0....N-1) is selected or not so in that case I cant use above code..... so I tried another way to do it..... and I have pasted the same so have a look at it.... int flag2=0; for (int j = 0; j < listBox3.Items.Count; j++) { if (listBox3.GetSelected(j) == true) { flag2 = 1; } } if(flag==1) { do 'x' thing } else do 'y' thing

Mohan,you can check it in selectedindexchanged event of listbox.To check whether a particular item is selected or not you can use SelectedIndex or SelectedItem property like below. private void listBox1_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { if( listBox1.SelectedIndex ==0) { //x thing } else { //y thing } }
