Microsoft SQL Server vs. MySQL

Question

I want to know the comparison between MS-SQL and MYSQL as I want to build a game website, hoping millions of users simultaneoulsy in the future. So I don't want to compare open source and closed source all I want to know is reliability, performance, security, Stored procedure, user defined functions and triggers.

Please share your suggestions?

Here is the order of preference based on industry standards(Considering Performance Loading and other considerations): 1. Oracle 2. SQL Server 3. MySQL So I would suggest you to go with SQL Server if you are looking against the MYSQL. SQL Server can help you with many features like estimated plans actual plans tuning advisor profiler and easy scripting and migration. Even if you have new requirements in future like reporting it can be done by SSRS and if you have any business intelligence requirements coming up you can still implement them with SQL Server using SSIS. Going with SQL Server is advisable in your scenario. Let me know if you have any questions in specific. Most of the .NET projects use SQL Server as the back-end unless the client has different database already available and you need to pull the data from there.

Hi AkkiRaju I was going through some research and came across that PostgreSQL is also good as it is free source and also provide good features. Do you have any idea about PostgreSQL? And Jignesh I have already went through that link and as per MyISAM perform good. If I will go for MySQL what are the difficulties and while hosting on server how i will make the server highly available for example database mirroring.

Thanks for your reply. I have gone through the link and just a concern that I want to use number of stored procedures and frequent data transaction with the backend what would be your suggestion?
