how to get text and value of dropdown with FormCollection in MVC?

Hi Srikanth You cannot get the text of a dropdown directly in MVC using forms collection.By default the value of dropdown is posted in forms collectionbut you can access the same using hidden field.Below is the snippet for the same. $(document).ready( function (){ $( #city ).change( function (){ var cityText=$( #cityoption:selected ).text(); $( #hidCity ).val(cityText); }); }); @Html.Hidden( hidCity ) @Html.DropDownList( city  new SelectList( string .Empty Value  Text ) Select  new {style= width:250px @ class = form-control }) In the controller action you can access the same . public ActionResultIndex(FormCollectioncollection) { varcity=collection[ hidCity ]; } If the above solution is helpful then accept the answer.

Hi Srikanth city is the dropdown name and option:selected will give you selected value from dropdown.There is a space in between them . #city option:selected If the above solution is helpful then accept the answer.

There is no direct way to get text of dropdown in action method. User hidden filed for that.
