Hi Guys NP73 .NET Framework .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86) Anyone knows about the meaning of Redistributable Package and x86 . Please explain. Thank you

You should certainly be able to run all applications compiled against .NET Framework 2.0, 3.0 or 3.5 on a machine wih only .NET 3.5 installed so that would cover anything written with one of the Visual Studio Express editions, 2005 or 2008. Although, in theory, applications compiled against v1.0 or 1.1 of the framework, should run on machines with only v2.0 (or later) installed, as there were some breaking changes between these versions I would recommend that you retain a copy of the .NET framework v1.1 on your machine to ensure those applications will always run as they were intended to.

In my view these are upgraded version of the software. Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 is the latest version. I thing Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 alone is enough to run all Express software. I wish to know whether my view is correct. Please confirm it.

To run any .NET program, a client needs to install an appropriate version of the .NET Framework. To facilitate this, Microsoft permits a developer to 'redistribute' the .NET framework to the client i.e. to install it on the client's machine. Nowadays, this is often done by downloading a program called the .NET Framework Resdistributable Package to the client machine, which, when run, installs and sets up the Framework automatically. x86 is the generic name nowadays for the Intel (or AMD) series of 32 bit processors such as the Intel Pentium, Intel Core or AMD Athlon. The name originated back in the late 1970s with the first processor in the series, the Intel 8086, though this was in fact a 16-bit processor. In constrast x64 is the generic name for 64 bit processors which developed from the same architecture as x86 and IA64 refers to Intel's 64 bit Itanium processor which is based on a different architecture.
