OCR (Optical Character Recognition) is the recognition of printed or written text characters by a computer. This involves photoscanning of the text character-by-character analysis of the scanned-in image  and then translation of the character image into character codes such as ASCII commonly used in data processing. OCR translates image s of text  such as scanned documents into actual text characters. you can use tesseract ocr engine it's the best open source ocr library i used. and before you starting you can go to this free online ocr(http://www.online-code.net/ocr.html) using tesseract ocr 3.02 to have a test it's with high accuracy and speed.

To my knowledge OCR features are not supported by the default .NET classes. So you will need to use a programming SDK that supports OCR functionality. I am currently using the OCR Advantage module from leadtools to add the OCR features to my project.
