Hello: Can someone show me a sample code of how I can use odbc to create a new text csv file?

theLizard you have developed a serious attitude problem. We are both opinionated people and we usually agree. I hope we can get back on the same track. Please see CSS SQL Server Engineers : How to get a x64 version of Jet? which says that Jet has  entered a state of functional deprecation and sustained engineering . There is more there taht you should read. I have found however Data : 64-bit OLEDB Provider for ODBC (MSDASQL) Is Now Available For Windows Server 2003 and I found Download details: Access Database Engine 2010 Beta . I assume that the 2010 Beta version is the latest. So Giorgio you might want to try the 2010 Beta download for Jet.

For writing CSV files it is probably easier to just write them using regular output classes such as StreamWriter. Microsoft is dropping support of ODBC so I don't know how much we can depend on it but if you want to do it the ODBC way then you need to create a schema.ini file in the same directory as the CSV file. I think the fact that the Jet databases don't exist in 64-bit Windows indicates they are not supported for future versions of Windows. That is confusing since Access uses Jet. So I am not sure what is best. I assume that somewhere there is documentation of what is supposed to be used instead of Jet but I have not gone looking for it yet. I think that SQL Server is what Microsoft wants us to use since there are free versions of it available; there is SQL Server Express and SQL Server Comapct Edition (CE). I don't know however how to access text files using SQL Server; that is the important thing that we need to look for. I notice that the Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileIO.TextFieldParser class does not write CSV files and there is not a class in Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileIO to do that so I assume Microsoft intends for us to write our own code for writing CSV files.

So Microsoft is dropping ODBC support and when do you think that might be Sam? and what will replace it Sam? I think you need to get your facts strait there Sam ODBC is here for some time to come do you think that the other major database providers are going to stop using ODBC think again. If you are peddling this type of misinformation Sam maybe it's time you retired.

Sam: Ok... I will try to get away from ODBC and Jet. Thanks for the info. I will surf on how to read write delete and update using the StreamWriter. Reason I am not using the MS SQL databse stuff yet is that I am trying to write a program that sets up a login program before it really connects to the real database. This subject is closed... BUT I will probably have more qestions after I read up on the StreamWrite stuff. Thank you very much for the info. I am learnign a lot.

Sam: Thanks... I dont want to write my stuff with old stuff... I will take out the ODBC stuff and go back to the  Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 . BTW: What do you think about the M icrosoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 ?
