Online ordering

Question

I developed point-of-sale software for a pizza company in my region. They have ~100 locations. They are asking that I begin work on online ordering. I have plenty of time, so I do not with to outsource this. The software I developed uses sqlite as the database. Can anyone recommend a way to handle this to get me started in the right direction? I was thinking about maybe using something as simple as encoded emails, generated from a web form.

Everyhting I see has to do with web browser/server. Do you happen to know anything I can reference that involves application/server?

A second glance tells me that this COMET might work it takes connections from applications as well as servers. This is great - I could set up a seperate site that allows store owners to log in and see sales in real time couldn't I?

I like it these are good suggestions but the problem is the nature in which i made the original program - sqlite database accessed through a windows mapped network drive. This poses challenges. Should I be considering a switch to a server-client structure instead of my current setup?

well as Mashed said it is best todo an online update i can recommend you to work with COMET framework http://www.codeproject.com/KB/aspnet/wxv_comet.aspx this is a gr8 framework for this need it will update the client based on server side Push meaning that the client will get updates based on the Server Decision in order to lower the Server Load insted of refresh on no change only the server will decide to update the client if the pizza order status has changed and the same method can be placed for the pizza place in order to know the status of pizza deliveries and status for their clients

Pizza orders must be in real-time. You cannot rely on emails for real-time. So you will have to come up with better options and one is you build online real-time updates where Pizza Shops will have that screen open and will see all orders in real-time. You can implement emails and SMS as secondary method of confirmation. Also Pizza shot must be able to update the status of order etc. Try to place an order on Domino's.
