Output of a new form on top of main form

Question

The question of course is primitive. As to when you call the new form, she was on top of the main form?

It sounds like you've got the first form's Topmost property set to true. It needs to be false if you're showing dialogs.

If there really is a parent/child relationship between the two forms, then Frogleg's solution is best. However, if the second form is just another top-level form, then the CenterParent setting will be ignored and the second form will appear in its default position.

I do so. Form2 nf = new Form2 () ; nf. ShowDialog () ; But I have it displayed for one second and then hides behind the main form.

FormStartPosition is an enum which is used to set the value of the Form's StartPosition property. If you don't set it, then the default is FormStartPosition.WindowsDefaultLocation which usually offsets it slightly from the location of the form which shows it. To control the starting location precisely, you have to set it to FormStartPosition.Manual and then set its Location property yourself. There's also another setting: FormStartPosition.CenterScreen which we haven't yet mentioned and is self-explanatory.

If you mean that you want the new form to appear on top of the first form when you load it, I'd try something like this: Form2 f2 = new Form2(); f2.StartPosition = FormStartPosition.Manual; f2.Location = this.Location; f2.Show();
