Parsing String

Question

HI everyone i have to split a string like CD-016 - Samina Joshi into string1=CD-016  and string2=Samina Joshi. how is it possible to do.

I found a quick fix. I feel there could be still more better sol.n string str = CD-016 - Samina Joshi; string str1 = str.Substring(0 str.IndexOf( - )); string str2 = str.Substring(str.IndexOf( - ) + 3 str.Length - str.IndexOf( - ) - 3);

Another way using Regular Expression.. string[] lines = System.Text.RegularExpressions.Regex.Split(CD-016 - Samina Joshi  - );

When it comes to string parsing you have a choice between high speed but not much power (String class methods) and high power but not much speed (regular expressions). Consequently when it's something simple like this I prefer to use String class methods but if it's complicated I use regular expressions. Having said that unless you're doing hundreds of similar operations you're unlikely to notice the difference in speed between the two.

You can also do it without using regular expressions: string[] items = str.Split(new string[]{ - } StringSplitOptions.None);
