Please HELP!

Question

I've done something particularly stupid I've written a massive project in vb.net but I need it to run without the .net framework i.e. on win 98 I haven't used any libraries or such things and its a standard windows app. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

But ajpr.. the .NET Framework is easy to install. It is in Windows Update etc.. Or you can just include it w/ the program the .NET re-distrbutable. And it will install before they install the program.

Hi Thanks for the help everyone although it does appear that I made a big mistake as basically I wanted to let people on standard win98 run it (the program) without having to install anything. So things like java apps wont work either as most people dont have java run time environment installed. Still some nice ideas and good attempts at help :) Thanks again

Right but you require .net framework on the client aye? he's trying to get around that.

Damn I didn't think about what the original post was before posting that last response since the UserControl runs client side it still requires the Framework to be installed... consider that last post retracted :) -James

There's a whole class of applications that don't require any frameworks or supporting software on the client machine. They're called web applications. If you don't want to or can't install the framework on the target/client machines you have no other choice but to create java 1.1 compliant applets or write web apps. *tips hat* g'luck

As far as I can make out the only language you can write a non .NET application in is C++ with the MFC.

A machine must have .NET Framework to run a .NET (written in any language C# VB.NET or others) application.

So you did use the at least one .Net library. And for sure you need framework to be installed ot the target machine. A don't really understand what is the problem here? Mike

In reply to your questions: I opened visual studio/net and chose to make a vb.net windows app. From then on I wrote lots of code without using references to other libs of course I used mscorlib.dll.... And yes I am certain I wrote this project as I remember writing it.... I posted in the wrong forum on purpose as there were no posts in the vb .net forum so to get an answer I posted here...

Out of curiosity - how did you write massive WindowsApp project in VB.NET without libraries? Are you sure it was you who wrote it? :) Back to your question - you can't run .Net applicatiopn without framework redistributable installed. And finally you posted it in the wrong forum. Mike
