Have you written this code in page load... If(!IsPostBack) { modalpopup.show(); } Also show the modal pop up where ever needed on click event and you can hide it by using modalpopup.Hide();

while registering dll you have used tagprefix as aspx aspx  %> just make it asp. Dont Forget to check this is correct answer :)

Its simple See i have used ModelPopu Extender as well as JquRy Popup. and by experinece jquery will be better. Steps to convert 1.Convert Ur Login Page To Login Control(it wont take much time just nned to change the page directive to usercontrol) 2.create div tag(with id ModalDiv) inside ur main Page and put entire login control inside it.
