A property in C# is normally used to control access to a field though it can be used in other scenarios. It usually has two accessors : 'get' which returns the value of the underlying field and 'set' which assigns it a value. Beneath the hood these accessors are implemented as separate methods. However it is possible to have read only properties which only have a 'get' and (rarely) write only properties which only have a 'set' accessor. It's also possible to have 'automatic' properties where the compiler generates an underlying field for the property automatically.
