publish a website and uplaod to my server

hi,
am created simple website and publis it. then published folder was make it as virtual directory, and finally upload to my ftp server but its getting following error

server error in '/' application

Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

hi freind, thank you for reply, iis was installed on my ftp server, problem was when i put content file in root directory of ftp server then is working but when i put whole published folder into root directory then error will arising,

hi, when i put into only published folder content file in root directory of ftp server then output is coming but published folder was put into root directory or under any other folder put it then same error coming. what is problem? please help me

hi friend, Please take care of following Cases: 1. You cannot keep the web.config only in the sub-directory. You need to have a web.config in the root directory. If at all you want to have a web.config in the sub-directory, then the only settings you can specify are authorization, appsettings etc., Unless you configure the sub-directory also as an application in the IIS Virtual directory settings, you cannot have any other settings such as authentication, session-state etc., in the web.config that you have in the sub-directory. 2. this error may caused by having two web.config files in different locations within the project folders by accident. These are the main reasons by which the error raises. Please mark the answer if it solved your problem.

ok i got it... you just have to upload the published folder on the IIS server. i thought you are uploading your complete project on the remote IIS server and thats why there is two web.config files are there one is for published and other is for your Development project. so do one thing just upload only published folder. and hopefully your problem will be solved. hi, thank for reply, my published webappliaction was coming output properly through localhost. but when i uploading this published webapplication then i run it, will getting that error. you said no multiple webconfig. so can i delete webconfig in published folder or in the ftp server? thanks

hi friend, This error appears usually either you have not configured your IIS authentication or you have multiple web.config configuration file. Check both options.
