Question about retrieving state information.

I have a Web Service which I need to create a windows app for to monitor it's status. In particular, I'm interested in 2 things. Whether the service is up and running, and if it is, how many connections are active to the service. Is there any way for me to get this information in my c# .net application?

Well your Windows application can run a timer and ping the service (connect with the URL and return if it is a success) at a certain time interval (every 2 mins for example). I am not sure what kind of connections are you talking about? Are you talking about how many users are using the service? For that your service probably has to keep track of connections and expose them as a method. You can call that method same time when you are checking if the service is alive or not.
