Email standards such as POP3 for reading messages don't specify anything for inboxes. Inboxes are created by email software; email for an account will exist differently in inboxes depedning on the software used to read the messages. So how to read inbox messages depends on what software the inbox exists in. The term mobile phone is ambiguous; it could be a Blackberry iPhone Android Windows CE or Windows Phone 7 phone.
