Remove last word from string

i want to remove last word from a string after a particular character- my string=Chain - 99.6 i want to remove - 99.6 from given string. how to delete string after a particular character ex:-

ok..in that situation you can put if condition... string oldString=Chain -99.6; if(oldString.Contains(-)) { string newString = oldString.Substring(0oldString.LastIndexOf(-)).Trim(); } Result:- Chain

If the input contains - all the times you can shorten the code as said by Datta If in any case the input does not contain - (e.g. contains only Chain ) then the above code would throw System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException. Becasue oldString.LastIndexOf returns -1 and oldString.Substring expects argument greater than zero.

Hi You can use same result in single line:- string oldString=Chain -99.6; string newString = oldString.Substring(0oldString.LastIndexOf(-)).Trim(); Result:- Chain
