Requirements for compiling to compact .NET?

Question

I have the Standard (cheap) edition of Visual Studio C# 2003. I installed the Pocket PC 2003 SDK but I can't tell if anything was added to VS2003. Should it have added the smart devices template? I installed VS.net before installing the eMbedded VB & C++ compilers -- should I reinstall? Or am I out of luck with the limited version of VS.net? Thanks Gary

Right the docs kind of imply that you can do it just without the wizard that does whatever it does to make your life easier. But whenever I find a how-to article it always starts off with running the Smart Device template! I might try copying a small app over to it and see what happens... Hmmm.... Nope won't run but I didn't get an error message either. Odd.

Looks like MS doesn't support SDE projects on 'Visual C#' - you have to upgrade to atleast Visual Studio Professional... ( i would think you would have atleast some version of visual studio included if you were able to access the IDE... but only MS knows !) You should be able to access the compact framework though if I am not mistaken... The compact framework is available as a part of .Net1.1 just the smart device project template is not available in your version of the product.. http://msdn.microsoft.com/vcsharp/productinfo/faq/default.aspx An excerpt : Smart device programmability. I don't have any of those versions -- I have the Visual C#.net Standard edition. I've seen vague descriptions on Microsoft.com that seem like it could go either way but as it turns out the wizard is not installed out-of-the-box. The Compact .net Windows Mobile 2003 SDK says it works with both C# and the eMbedded C++ 4.0 compiler so worst-case I can try the C++ version. It's not that big of a deal as I'm interested in this to play with the newer technology not for paid work. Thanks Gary
