Agreed. Think of MonoDevelop as Visual Studio 2010 but Free. It does not have that many features but it is very good for development if you do not want to pay for Visual Studio.

MonoDevelop is an IDE, so after you have used it to develop something, there is no need for it. You can use some other IDE if there is any reason you can't use MonoDevelop. So I don't understand the question. Perhaps you have been asked to learn and use MonoDevelop but don't want to and looking for a reason not to use it. If so then there is no clear answer; most likely you should just go ahead and dive in.

As you know, MonoDevelop is a free cross-platform IDE which can be used on (amongst others) Linux, Windows and Mac OS. It is developed by the Mono community and supports C# 4.0 as well as several other languages. Currently, the future looks secure for Mono, MonoDevelop and Moonlight (Mono's version of Silverlight) which are now under the stewardship of a new company called Xamarin rather than Novell (see http://blog.xamarin.com/ ). It's two commercial products, MonoTouch for iOS and Mono for Android, should continue to prove popular for those who prefer to program in C# rather than Objective C or Java and generate income to help fund the enterprise as a whole.
