Select Gridview Row in ASP.Net

Question

Hi I have created a grid view and i am fetching data in this from database. Grid view and designing of controls both are in one form. I want to fill all controls (text box n all) by clicking on grid view row. In my grid view 5 fields are there but in design i have many controls. I have done this coding - protected void grdv_assets_OnSelectedIndexChanged(object sender EventArgs e) { txt_assetcode.Visible = true; int rowIndex = grdv_assets.SelectedIndex; txt_assetupdatemode.Text = true; ddl_assettype.SelectedValue = grdv_assets.SelectedRow.Cells[1].Text.Trim(); txt_assetbrand.Text = grdv_assets.SelectedRow.Cells[2].Text.Trim(); txt_assetmodel.Text = grdv_assets.SelectedRow.Cells[3].Text.Trim(); ddl_assetVendor.SelectedValue = grdv_assets.SelectedRow.Cells[4].Text.Trim(); txt_assetPdate.Text = grdv_assets.SelectedRow.Cells[5].Text.Trim(); } these 5 control ' s value are coming from gridview row to the control but how to fill rest control's in my design??? If my question is not clear let me know....

hi try like this: protected void grdv_assets_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender EventArgs e) { int ID = Convert.ToInt32(grdv_assets.SelectedValue.ToString()); SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(strConnString); string str = select * from m_asset where Asset_UniqueId=' + ID + '; SqlDataAdapter da=new SqlDataAdapter(str con); DataSet ds = new DataSet(); da.Fill(ds); lbl_id.Text = ds.Tables[0].Rows[0][Asset_UniqueId].ToString(); ; lbl_name.Text = ds.Tables[0].Rows[0][AssetType].ToString(); ; } in above code i bind it to only two labels. you can follow this and bind the value to all control.

Ya data is coming in gridview now but when i am selecting a row it is now going in grdv_assets_OnSelectedIndexChanged event. On grdv_assets_OnSelectedIndexChanged event only i will do that coding right??

Now data only is not coming in gridview... shlould i use datasourceid for that?? I yes then i don't want to use coz already i have created Stored procedures and functions for that.

hi try this in aspx: DataKeyNames=Asset_UniqueId CellPadding=5 AutoGenerateColumns=false Width=100% PageSize=5 OnPageIndexChanging=grdv_assets_OnPageIndexChanging OnSelectedIndexChanged=grdv_assets_OnSelectedIndexChanged OnRowDataBound=grdv_assets_OnRowDataBound> FooterStyle-CssClass=Hidden /> BorderStyle=Solid BorderWidth=1px HorizontalAlign=Left /> now you can get the id by using this line of code: int id= Convert.ToInt32(grdv_assets.DataKeys[e.RowIndex].Value.ToString()); now pass the value to database to get the related data and bind it to controls.

hi in your page there are lot of controls to be bind you grid selection. but in your grid you are directly binding. so to get all the values you a have get it from database on grid row selection. that should be done on passing one unique id to database and get the corresponding data. for that. try to bind your grid with templatefield and use datakey property of grid. so it will easy for you to get all the data;
