smtp server configuration on web application..

Question

alright so theres an smtp configuration component inside the web application tool. problem is i cant figure out how to make it work. i dont know what to put inside the server name. what i want to do is set up my own smtp server (is it possible?) inside my windows XP laptop. i tried setting up the virtual smtp server from IIS but i cant relate how i can make it work with the asp.net web application. any help? tia.

Friend See the below Screen Shot How i configured My Gmail SMTP with Asp.net Web Application please check Do you like this answer checkbox if my answer helps you :) you just have to Put your SMTP setting instead of gmail Settings . now if you want to make your own mail Server in your laptop its not possbile becuase mail server runs till a years (they dont shut down for years too ) so you need to buy SMTp Service from third party they will provide you settigs like i have filled in below Asp.net Web configuration window just place them and press save and Send Mail Using asp.net application :)

actually this is for a thesis defense i just need to show that the password retrieval works (and that requires the smtp configuration). now i've been opting to use gmail (but the thesis panel will not allow it). now i can also use the third party option but that will cost me money for just 1 email-worth of functionality. thanks anyways. i'll have another question on a different thread though something about gridview. thanks again
