So... has anyone actually used mono yet?

Project Mono is the project to bring an open-source implentation of .NET to the masses. Has anyone actually used it yet? Curious, is all.

Not yet, but I will. You guys are pretty hard on Linux. It's a great server OS and will continue to grow in popularity. Allot of people make good money with Linux. Mono should work great on the server because a developer has total control and there is no GUI to worry about. Client side is another story though. I would avoid Mono for that. One of the best uses of Mono is looking at the code. Since MS has C# locked up (unlike Java which you can download the SRC for) Mono allows you to duplicate and extend sealed classes withouth having to reverse engineer code you Neil

James, the question should be, "are there really people here who are not considering to switch to Linux" ;) Not tried mono yet myself, but am really interested in giving it a try. Anybody else? I will do it this winter when I have the time.

I was once on the expressway behind an old VW Rabbit that had two bumper stickers, one that that said 'I Love Linux', and the other was a Ralph Nader for President sticker. I laughed because that pretty much summed up every anti-establishment linux junkie that I know. And lets not leave out the Mac-geeks as long as we're at it. I have a recurring argument with a good friend of mine who keeps regurgitating the 10 year old argument that Mac's are more user friendly and if the rest of the world just lived in coffee houses and pondered the width of space and time, they would see the error of their Microsoft based way (I'm paraphrasing) :) -James

ahem... to clarify... "old" vw driving. The new beetles, after all, do have their water-cooled engines in the front and cost $20k for a nice one. let's be clear :) I once saw a tag line that said "People who write software for money should be shot". Needless to say, I had a few words for that clown. That's like saying "people who only build houses for money should be shot" or "people that heal others for money should be shot" or "people that come to my house and fix my pipes on a sunday night at 11pm for money should be shot". What? So because some hippies don't like "the man", I should suddenly stop feeding my kids and paying my bills? Phugg-Dat!
