sort data in listbox

Hi I need to sort the data in listbox the listbox is populated from text file with 5 fields (columns) about 20 rows. Please advise how to sort? Thanks

As the ISBN is the first column a default string sort based on the whole line should achieve the desired result here: string[] lines = File.ReadAllLines(books.txt); Array.Sort(lines); listBox1.DataSource = lines;

Yes you can add the lines to the listbox 'manually' and have the listbox sort them for you: string[] lines = File.ReadAllLines(books.txt); listBox1.Items.Clear(); listBox1.Items.AddRange(lines); listBox1.Sorted = true;

It's difficult to answer this without knowing how you're dealing with 5 columns within a ListBox which normally has only one but assuming you're loading the contents of the text file into an array this code will sort them before displaying them in the ListBox: string[] names = {C D E F G A B D G C B E C D F B A F G C}; Array.Sort(names); listBox1.DataSource = names; The result is: A B D G C B A F G C B E C D F C D E F G
