source code control management

Question

Hi all I am customizing a website for internal use. In the process based on evryday requirements changes are made to the original source code. I would like to know as to how i can keep versions of these source code with out having to go through through much hasssle. At present i am just creating new folders (with the folder name containing the date of change) in the wwwroot folder. I wanted to know how to use the source code control management system - Visual source safe. I have microsoft visual studio .NET 2003 installed on my system. Please help me navigate from here. VS.NET would tell me the project was not available and that files could not be opened.

Strange it gave me nothing but problems but only with ASP.NET files.

No it doesn't. I have succesfully(?) used even the VS.NET integration but it's somewhat scary though. But you can use it easily without. Just use SS as stand-alone source control mechanism and use VS.NET only to edit files.

Source Safe messes everything up if you use it with ASP.NET. I tried!!

I guess this is not the right place to ask for source safe questions. But as far as I know it shouldn't be that hard. Just give it a try :)
