Split the .txt file based on line count in C sharp

Question

Hi I have the 1000 records in noteapd. I want to split it by 100 records (based on the line count). In each split file should have the header along with data. Please help me. Regards Gopi A

Yes the code should work just as well in a Windows Forms application as a Console application because no UI elements have been used. You could generalize it by reading the path of the file to split up from one textbox and the partition size from another textbox.

Well the program's working fine with my own test file so I think the partition files must be there somewhere. If you've put gopi.txt in the root directory of your D: drive then try writing the partition files to the same drive so that you know exactly where they should be. So this line: string fileName = gopi + part.ToString() + .txt; should be changed to this: string fileName = D:\gopi + part.ToString() + .txt;

That line is reading the existing file (I've called it gopi.txt but you may have called it something else) containing a header plus 1000 lines. In the same directory you should have 10 more files containing the header and 100 lines each. These 'partition' files will be named gopi1.txt gopi2.txt etc. When you say the file did not save do you mean that the partition files haven't been created at all or that they have been created but don't contain what they should?

As the program is written it assumes that the original file gopi.txt is in the current directory and that the partition files: gopi.txt gopi2.txt ..... gopi10.txt are all saved to the current directory too.

Try the following which is a general partitioning program which can deal with any size of file or partition (respectively 1000 and 100 here). It can also deal with extra lines at the end of the file which don't make up a complete partition.
