start scanner from our windows .net application

please help how to start a scanner from windows .net application in visual studio in button click event. i don't know anything about it .. do i need to import any dll s or namespaces...

please describe the scanner. is it serial or USB? what do you mean by start it? does it have power when you plug it in? I have code that integrates into both serial and USB scanners. just post which you have.
