Why and When do we want use static variable and a static member?

Notice that, unlike VB.NET, C# doesn't support the concept of static local variables i.e. variables local to a method which retain their previous values between calls to the method. So, the only variables that can be static in C# are 'class/struct level variables' or 'fields' as I prefer to call them.

hi, static variables are used when only one copy of the variable is required. A static variable remains in existence and retains its most recent value. The next time your code calls the procedure, the variable is not reinitialized, and it still holds the latest value you assigned to it. A static variable continues to exist for the lifetime of the class or module in which it is defined. hope this help.
