Strong Name

Question

What is the use of signing the assembly and creating a strong name key file? In my .NET 2.0 Windows application, only one executable is created. Do I need to add a strong name to it? Do I need to add it to all Executables and DLL files?

The question is why it is necessary to sign an assembly? the signature or the certification is needed for security issues I explain: your machine is devided to My computer zone Trusted zone Local intranet zone Internet zone Restricted zone each zone enables executions of certain tasks under certain persmissions for example assemblies in internet zone arn't allowed to write to your hard drive but the trused zone ones could do this to give an assembly the trusted privilège we have either to sign it (strong name assembly) or to buy a certificate from a vendor exmaple X509 certificate and sign it with you can localize the zone start>configuration panel> administration tools>.Net framework x.xx expand the runtime security policy tree node the the machine one and then the code groups
