Switch Career from Support engineer to .Net Developer

Question

I got a chance to work in MNC Where by the time i join here as a Support Engineermy work is going on in linux and sql support though it does not include much of coding also salary hike is not much better than a developer after some year of experience so i want to switch my Career to .Net Developer after 2 year so is it possible to switch ? if yes then how? i need help of a expert and please suggest me some of the best way.

As long as .Net development is there there will be scope for support engineers which means there is lot of scope in the future . But the number of people to support the development team will be very low . The scenarios like hike and onsite would be less compared to that of a developer . Sangita there are so many examples like you who switched from software support engineer to software development engineer. So you can do this. You already aware about about SQL. So as per my understanding & experience if you doing some courses in SQL & .Net (Like C#.Net with MVC or Salesforce) then you will get better opportunity in software development industry. Because already you having good exposure in software support so definitely your communication will be excellent & communication also making good impact in software development industry. Where as hand on development experience concern then there are many opportunity in market where people asking about excellent communication experience in software industry with some courses/certification with good knowledge. And one thing first make good understanding in any good programming language like C#. Then choose any latest/upcoming technology for courses/certification because in that kind of scenario as I seen that companies are asking about courses/certification/good knowledge only. Because in the case of latest/upcoming technology there will be less experienced people in market.

Yes it's very much possible but you need to develop some programming skills and needs to get some project exposure.

Yes it is possible. You learn .net first then do some projects by your self . You can ask your manager to switch as .net developer in same company. Switch company and look for another job as .net developer.

Yes with your Support experience you will can easily get Equivalent .NET support jobs. But .Net developer jobs would be a bit hard but achievable as well . Good Luck !

Hi Sangita You can always switch jobs . But when you switch field as such you will be considered a fresher as you do have experience in programming constructs . But in your case you will be having having some hands on experience with sql . Make use of this time to get used to SQL as well as .NET development . Interviews of .NET opening for 2 years experienced people usually cover the basics . So even if you learn the basics by doing couple of sample projects you should be able to clear the interview and get the job of an experienced .NET developer . The flip side is MNC s will not consider SQL support experience for experience .NET developer interviews which means if you try to attend their interview you will have to start with a fresher's salary .
