Token based authentication in Web API 1.1

Ho w can we implement token based authentication in Web API 1.1.
need a complete end to end small solution.
Please do not provide links to articles explaining authentication in Web API 2.0.
I need specifically for Web API 1.1, that do not support OWIN layer or in built token based authentication.
