The unit testing is good practice to test the application. Usually the back end code(data access logics and business logics has to be done prior to start the UI level designs. The .net allows to do Nunit testing to test in the back end methods. It can be experimented with the different levels. The user level experience can be done with different sample data. The performance can be identified with load testing. The Nunit testing only for test the logics and code supports to meet the application functionality. I believe any kind of application has to be tested for the basic functionalities and next level will be performance. Because we can't say the performance has to be tuned at the application level alone. It has to be identified the sources level or application level. For example the sql server may give bit less performance. Hope you this will help to understand some thing about testing...
