Use of WPF in .NET

It provides an alternative and more powerful platform for building windows desktop applications than its predecessor Windows Forms. Unfortunately the additional power comes at the expense of additional complexity and so building new applications using Windows Forms which is more than adequate for most purposes is still supported by .NET and Visual Studio.
