Using LINQ

Question

Do you use LINQ in your applications? Yes or No? If Yes how do you find it? I review code almost every week and I still see LINQ is not being used at all.

Mahesh can you explain this statement please In Silverlight and Windows Phone apps it makes sense to use LINQ (client side and runs in the browser).

Thanks for the feedback guys! Sam that would be nice to compare both SQL and LINQ. I am still trying to figure out why should I use LINQ in my Windows client applications. In Silverlight and Windows Phone apps it makes sense to use LINQ (client side and runs in the browser).

I agree with Vulpes nowadays I using it less. LINQ to SQL sometime creates memory problem for me am not sure its a bug in my code or its happens like that. I read somewhere Ignoring Linq To Sql is the best way to have good performance for your appliaction if its only necessary and not avoidable then use LINQ to SQL. I want to start LINQ again. Hi Mahesh sir  If you want find whether LINQto SQL being used in project or not. In Solution explorer try to find file with extension .dbml . If it is there then probably LINQ to SQL is used in the project. Other way may be to see the connection string and offcourse if there is instance of [somename]Context in project then LINQ to SQL being used.

I have not read all the articles in this web site about LINQ. I also have a book about LINQ that I have not yet read. I expect to use LINQ extensively when I know how to. Everything I have read so far however explains LINQ as clearly as mud. So I have a secret. If I could I would write an article comparing SQL to LINQ; that is what are the equivalent syntaxes. I assume that LINQ can do more than SQL can but even if that is true it would help to have a comparison of how to do equivalents when there are equivalents. The other thing that would help is to explain what happens sequentially. Everything that I have read does not seem to do that and the LINQ syntax does not seem to be in the sequence of what happens. In other words what (in a LINQ expression) is the input how does it get filtered and what happens that results in output records. I don't know how to relate the LINQ expression to those activities. In my opinion LINQ is just not clearly described. For example see LINQ to SQL in C# . It is extensive (big) and has a lot of sample code but it has very little explanation as I described.

Yes i do.. Either the application is developed with ADO.NET Entity framework..or I prefer it to reduce the codeline... and these days I'm working out with PLINQ too.. yes its time to utilize your MultiCore processors in your porgram. I like LINQ....

I use Linq for Objects and Linq to XML all the time. However I don't use Linq to SQL or the Entity Framework as I consider them to be more trouble than they're worth. I prefer to stick to the traditional forms of database access.
