What is the role of runat=server ?

Dear sanjoli Using runat=server on controls allows you to access and change it via the code behind. example: Server side: not use in lable1 from server side(code behind) .. you are not able to bind any value in label but runat=server Text=Lable:> runat=server has been used so you will be get lable1 from clint side .... label1.text=; This post help you than please mark as Accepted Answer

Hi As per my understanding ASPX contains mix tags are asp tags and HTML tags and HTML tags has an option of either it expose on server side (code behind file). But Asp tag must have runat server tags and it must expose in code behind file. hope this help.
