Vista and Command Prompt window problem

Question

I just bought a new computer that has Windows Vist Home Premium on it. I figured out how to open a command window, but don't seem to be able to get access to any directories that I set up for project files. I can see the directories when I do a "Dir" command, but when I try to change to that directory I get a "Invalid Directory" message!!! Can any one help, please?
