WebForms vs. APS.net

Question

I have a large scale VB 6 application that we are converting to c#. Many of our clients would like to use the application from the web. My question is, should I use WebForms or ASP.net? I need the application to have a robust UI. What are Pros/Cons of both WebForms and APS.net? Thanks Dan Reber

I guess I misunderstood your question. Web Forms is same as ASP.NET. Did you mean Win Forms? If yes, see my answer.

You can build pretty robust applications in ASP.NET. I have written a case study on this topic and will see if I can publish it on the site. Here are some advantages of ASP.NET. 1. Targets Web users - ASP.NET is the only way. Windows Forms don't support Web. 2. No need to redistribute/deploy applications on multiple machines. You need only one server. Which means code maintenance is less. For example, if you make changes to the app, only need to deploy on a single machine. 3. No network boundries for Web apps. Any body can access from any where. Disadvantages of ASP.NET: 1. Exposing your app to web users. Security issues with data if not handled property. 2. Might be slower in performance depending on the application size and number of users. 3. If not familiar with Web development, will take longer time to build in compare to Windows Forms. Again, it will depends on the requirements of your project, size, number of users and so on.
