What are messages

I am doing some research on WCF and I am seeing the term Mesages pretty often. What are messages Why is it called messages Can you give me some helpful site on messaging or a messaging system. So that I can understand 100%?

Hi Darnell windows operating system has MSMQ the user can send and receive the message from message queue. There are some advantages. Increase application robustness as clients can send messages even when services are not running. Increase application scalability because multiple service instances can be used to process messages from a single queue. Improve client responsiveness which eliminates the need for clients to wait for a response from the service. Reduce decencies between client and services because all communication is indirect via queues. Ensure the durability of messages because they can survive service and system failures. What does MSMQ stands for? Can you give me example of a message? Also is message a input/ out value?
