Well Linux itself is a very broad topic to be covered in an article or a book itself. Therefore multiple books are devoted to serving the purpose of the understanding. There are various books written. But since you are a beginner I would recommend that you get a book for Ubuntu operating system. The benefits of understanding Ubuntu are You still get to learn Linux Ubuntu has GUI as well GUI can help you in many cases. There are other high-level features; such as email clients etc. Then finally once after you have learnt and understood how Ubuntu works. You can finally move onwards to learn Linux itself. After that Linux will be simple because you already know how Ubuntu works -- which is a Linux itself.
