What are the usage of SSL in websites?

Hi friends I want to know about SSL which is a security protocol is used in websites completely so please explain more about it and about usage of that.

SSL certificate enabled site help to secure communication between Your server and client PC. without SSL your site communicate in plain text and anyone can manipulate using HTTP monitoring but if you have SSL communicate its encrypted and very difficult to decrypte this.

No but a domain name is necessary  because it is registered to the domain name.
