List x=new List (); in above sentence we have written string between ' ' He want to say here doesnt mean conditional operator Less than and greater than. Instead they are used here for declaring something ex:here with the help of angualr brackets and DataType between them we are stating that object will contain colelction of string types. Check this is correct answer if it helped

When declaring a generic type such as List  the angle brackets are considered to be part of the declaration. They enclose the type parameter(s) of the generic type. They are not the same as the 'less than' or 'greater than' operators respectively which are used in an expression such as the following: int i = 3; int j = 4; bool b = (j > i ) && (j < 2 * i); // true
