Thank you for pointing out. I missed it. Please try this for SQL server (if you are using 2012+). If conversion fails, it returns null and you can avoid the error on conversion. DECLARE @String VARCHAR (10) = '123' DECLARE @ int INT SET @ int = TRY_CONVERT( INT , @string) SELECT @ int .

@Tapan, did you even read the question? He is more likely in somewhere SQL environment (or using a reader), and then trying to convert varchar to int, where the varchar is "R". Reread the question and then try again. :-)

If you are intending to convert string to integer, you can always avoid errors by following code. int .TryParse( "x" , out int someVar); //even parsing 12.34 would result in zero. Console.WriteLine(someVar); which results into displaying zero as it cannot convert x to int. int .TryParse( "123" , out int someVar); Console.WriteLine(someVar); results into : 123 (As expected)

It means that your value, which is "R" cannot be converted to its relevant integer value. Please have a look at your data, "R", what do you think should be its possible integer value? None. You can have possible conversions only for valid numeric values in varchar format, such as, '123', '654', etc. Anything that is not a valid numeric value cannot be convered to integer. Thus, the problem here.

Thank you all i figured it out it was a minor exception only the ordering of parameters where needed to be in both procedure deccleration and calling of it i did that mistake hence it shooted out an exception . Thanks everyone !!
