What is Browser file in web application/website ?

I want to know that for which purpose the browser file in asp .net is used in web application/website???? Is it required for URL rewriting???

browser file is used for browser detection and support your pages to load sucessfully on every browser. for example: asp:menu did not supports on chrome by setting .browser configurations you can view the menu correctly. This file is stored under App_Browsers folder. You can find existing browser definitions at \Microsoft.NET\Framework\ \CONFIG\Browsers To override this we can use .browser files. refer
