What is difference between html and html5?

HTML 5 is an updated version of HTML. It's much similar to HTML. But difference is HTML 5 contains much better support for media such as an audio and video tag.

HTML was originally created in 1990 and after going through several versions was eventually standardized in 1997 as HTML4. This (or the slightly updated HTML 4.01) is generally what we mean by HTML nowadays. HTML5 is a substantial update of HTML4 and is still a work in progress.
