Well it's true that you can simulate method nesting in C# with anonymous methods or, more elegantly (from v3.0 onwards), with lambda expressions. For example: using System; class Program { static void Main() { Func square = x => x*x; Console.WriteLine(square(9)); // 81 Console.ReadKey(); } } However, this isn't 'true' method nesting like you have in languages such as Pascal and Modula-2. What actually happens is that the compiler rewrites the code so that the body of the anonymous method or lambda expression is 'lifted' into a non-nested compiler generated method in the same class or in another (compiler generated) class, depending on whether any outside variables are 'captured' or not. So, in the above example, the compiler would rewrite the code on something like the following lines: using System; class Program { static void Main() { Func square = __square; Console.WriteLine(square(9)); // 81 Console.ReadKey(); } static int __square(int x) // it'll be called something more cryptic in practice { return x*x; } }
