I am new in asp.net. what is the postback in asp.net. what is the use of this postback in asp.net. pls give me 1 example of this how this property works in asp.net.

Dear ARVIND YADAV Post back is submitting the form to the Server or posting back the same page. There is a boolean variable named IsPostback which can be used to check this if the page loads for the first time the value of this variable is false the page load is second or above its true this is mainly useful when you want to setup some value for the controls. because you may need to change the values in the second load or above. Postback refers t o submitting the form to itself. Postback can be self-postback crosspage-postback. When we are submitting form to same form then it is self postback. Whnever we are submitting form to another form for eg. using response.redirect(somepage.aspx?_querystring=somevalue); i.e. cross-page-postback.

Hi Arvind In the context of web development a postback is an HTTP POST to the same page that the form is on. In other words the contents of the form are POSTed back to the same URL as the form. In ASP a form and its POST action have to be created as two separate pages resulting in the need for an intermediate page and a redirect if one simply wants to perform a postback. This problem was addressed in ASP.NET with the __doPostBack() function and an application model that allows a page to perform validation and processing on its own form data. PostBack is done if certain credentials of the page are to be checked against a database (such as verification of username and password).
