Hi Below are the difference DataAdapter - It is used to retrieve data from database and place it into the dataset. - It is used the Connection object to connect database and use command object to get the data. DataReader - this is also used for getting the data.It will read single row at a time.It is used mainly forwhen you want to display data. - It will increases the performance because it will fetch one row at a time in memory. DataReader features: 1. Enables rows of data to be read in a forward-only direction. 2. Works quickly. 3. For even better performance provides methods which allow column values to be accessed using their native data types. 4. Good choice for retrieving large amounts of data because data is not cached in memory. 5. Can retrieve multiple result sets using the NextResult method. DataAdapter features: 1. Fills a DataSet in a single operation. A DataTable is created within the DataSet for each result set. 2. Can create a schema for the DataSet as well as load data into it. 3. Not very quick particularly for large DataSets. 4. Provides properties to retrieve insert update and delete rows using SQL commands. In simple cases these commands can be generated automatically using a CommandBuilder. 5. Keeps track of insertions updates and deletions to the DataSet and can write these back to the database using the Update method which calls the appropriate SQLcommands.
