What is the difference between Git and Github

Question

Git and Github has any difference ? when we add any project to source control from VS2013 IDE then two option comes. one is TFS and another one is GIT. if we select git and when we commit and sync then we need to provide github project url. so tell me can we give different publish url there other than github project url ? please guide me about this word called Git. thanks

Hi You cant can't give any other url other than your project url. The url only defines the location of your project source code. If you want to create some branches then you create them with different urls. here no one mention that microosft has its own git rather github. see this url http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/article/beginning-with-git-using-vsts/ the link shown VSTS (Visual Studio Team Services) supports both TFVC and Git link shown how to add project to git from VSTS and later clone it in local pc by VS IDE. thanks

you did not mention git and github is same ? when we publish a project then we need to provide github project url ? this is got from your one of link you shared here. Git is a revision control system a tool to manage your source code history. GitHub is a hosting service for Git repositories. So they are not the same thing: Git the tool GitHub the service for projects that use Git. if git is version control system then other hosting service provider use git other than github ? svn bitbucket etc they use git as their source control ? can we provide project url when publish from VS IDE if it hosted in bitbucket with git source control ? please clearly mention these. thanks
