What is the purpose of garbage collection

Hi friends Ques : I want to know that What is the purpose of garbage collection in Java and when is it used. Please explain in brief?

Te Garbage collection is part of the .net framework and its auto memory management component of the CLR. The earlier versions of the microsoft products was released the memory object manually and it was lazy to release the memory object. It affected the performance of the application. The Garbage collection is the generation of collections and it has three generation. When the object is intantiated the memory will be alloted in the heap memory. When that object is no longer needed then it will be automatically released from the heap. The System.Gc is the namespace which have the class related to the memory management. The garbage can be collected using the dispose method. It is not advised to force to collect objects. The generation 0 is for short lived and 1 for medium lived and 2 for long lived objects. The pupose of garbage collection is to automatically clean up objects and release the heap memory they were using when there are no longer any references to those objects within the application. This relieves the programmer from having to manage memory manually.
