it gives you flexibility in the protocol connecting your application parts together for instance you may have a windows application using wcf to connect to a wcf windows service using tcp/ip and then easily change the protocol to http and run it across the web. We do this as a matter of configuration and thus an administrative function of our application as opposed to a code and architecture change. it should have no impact on your data or how you update it and even in http the messages remain real time as if its a desktop application. in other words the fact that its a wfc service is no different to a normal windows or web service you have the flexibility of both and the service connects to sql in whichever technology you wish (ado.net?)
